Food Toys For The Win!
This is my 18 year old blind pup, Quinn, before he cross the rainbow bridge in 2021. He is playing with a food puzzle called a Treat & Train. These self-feeders prove very helpful for all sorts of situations in which you need to engage your dog but cannot be right next to him! They also help show a dog that good things happen when something "bad" happens like the doorbell rings! Helpful for door dashing, jumping, alert barking, and actual training. Muzzle Training can be easy!
Never a good idea to just put a muzzle on your dog's face. This is very intrusive and uncomfortable and they immediately learn to hate the muzzle and want to pull it off. They might succeed! And sometimes muzzles are necessary for everyone's safety. Muzzle training is fast, easy and effective and keeps your dog and everyone else, safe. Stop Unwanted Jumping!
Teaching Odie a Sit Stay for time and distractions while training Harry that the only time the Stand gets a treat is when I ask for it, not when he just does it on his own. Putting an unwanted behavior on a cue like this teaches the pup that offering it gets nothing while the human asking fir it does! Helps reduce unwanted behaviors and limits them to happening only when you ask for them. This can be done with anything! Even jumping on people, as Harry shows!
